Songs From a Room
In this series I wanted to explore how objects can be imbued, even charged with emotion and reflect the psychological dynamics of relationship through empty chairs.
It was my intention to use the most basic elements to suggest complex and nuanced aspects of relationship.
Painted during covid, I started on a whim, with a single painting which turned into an entire series. I almost see each painting in the series as a chapter in a long novel which is understood in the context of the entire body of work.
Over the following few years I returned to some of the paintings and removed the chairs and developed the idea of space which is at once interior and exterior as a metaphor for our mind as actor and observer.
